What is Dementia?
The Alzheimer’s Society explains that the term ‘dementia’ is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions. Signs of dementia include loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding. There are several diseases and conditions that result in dementia and these include Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular dementia, Dementia with Lewy bodies and Fronto-temporal dementia (including Pick’s disease).
Dementia Treatment
Unfortunately there is no known cure for dementia but drugs have been developed that alleviate some of the symptoms of some types of dementia. It is important to see your doctor if you have any of the above symptoms for a proper diagnosis of dementia and further information on living with dementia.
Dementia Care Products
NRS Healthcare sells a range of products to help people with dementia, whether this is at home, in a care home or in hospital. Our range of dementia products can help those dealing with the symptoms of dementia, and includes alarm systems, sensory loss equipment, products to prevent falls, medication reminder tools, memory aids & prompts, products to help with safety around the home and wandering detection & location tracking. Dementia carers may find reminiscence activities useful to keep dementia patients mentally stimulated.
Dementia Aids
Dementia aids can help people cope with the effects of dementia. Red handled cutlery can help at certain stages of dementia and are easy to grip and to see. Dementia clocks can help dementia patients by showing the day and/or the time of day to prevent confusion. Coping with dementia can be made easier for carers with a voice alert sensor mat which sounds an alert when a person leaves a chair or bed.
